Make sure the head of the screws are countersunk in order to sit flush in the spacer. Remove the screws from the strike plate, using a screw driver, and pry the strike plate off the jamb. Mark this spot on the strike plate, using a piece of chalk. I recommend using screws that are at least 1" in size on interior doors and 3" in size on exterior doors. Step 1 Determine which edge of the strike plate that the door latch bolt is striking, causing the latch to miss the hole. Screws no longer fit or are loose: You will need to pick up a new set of drywall / wood screws. If the spacer is too large, you will need to sand it down with some sand paper. If you pick too small of a spacer you can put the existing striker plate on top of the spacer. Pick the closest match, making sure to round down in measurement, not up. Measure the gap between the door and the frame.

This listing is for a standard residential grade 2-1/4" door striker. bolt or spacers for the strike plate I could make a spacer, but I thought maybe someone might make one a little prettier than I could make LOL.
